Bill Hudgins – Contributor

For more than 30 years Mr. Bill Hudgins, owner of Bill Hudgins GMC, has been supporting Gloucester High School students and athletic teams.  Mr. Hudgins is a 1964 graduate of Mathews High School where he was four-year letter recipient in football, basketball and baseball.  Mr. Hudgins has graciously allowed the GHS senior classes over the years to use space at his business for the building of their senior float for the homecoming parade.  He contributes many other behind the scenes donations and sponsorships to a variety of groups at the high school including footballs and basketballs to be thrown into the crowds at home games. Mr. Hudgins’ assistances to the community does not stop at GHS.  He has been part of Gloucester County Social Services Board, VIMS fundraiser board, Rappahannock Community College Citizen Advisory board, and was a past member of the Volunteer Fire and Rescue squad.  For many years, he donated a car for the GHS driver’s education program and he was also the recipient of Gloucester County’s Blue Ribbon Volunteer Award.  Through his kindness he has opened up his business to help collect school supply donations as well as host an “Angel Tree” at Christmas for donations to local children in need.  Mr. Hudgins has been very involved in the community and extremely generous over the years to Gloucester County, Gloucester High School and our students.


JaLeesa Osborne – Athlete

In 2006, Ms. JaLeesa Osborne was named Gloucester High School’s Most Athletic Female and this was no understatement. She was a standout member of the girls’ basketball team and track and field team.  JaLeesa was a four-year varsity letter recipient and a three-year varsity starting point guard for girls’ basketball. During that time, she led the team in steals, points scored, and dominated defensively.  For the track and field team she also was a four-year varsity letter recipient and excelled in many events, mainly the long jump. It was in this event that she placed second at the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics as a junior.  As a sophomore, she finished fifth in the AAA state championship.  During JaLeesa’s senior year she placed 4th in the District and 6th in the Eastern Region.  Besides being athletic, JaLeesa was an excellent student, and participated in W.E.B. Dubois Honor Society, volunteered with 4-H and was a Dukes football manager. After graduation in 2006, JaLeesa furthered her athletic career at Roanoke College where she continued to excel in two sports for four years.  While playing on the Roanoke women’s basketball team she was a starting point guard, led the team in assists, steals and free throw percentage.  She was also named to the first and second All Old Dominion Athletic Conference Teams. As part of the track and field team she held Division III All American Honors in the long jump and 4x100M relay, breaking school and conference records along the way.  JaLeesa graduated from Roanoke in 2010 and is employed as a Federal Agent.  

1987 State Championship Golf team

In 1987, this group of young men had some amazing accomplishments while at Gloucester High School.  They were the regular season York River District Champions, York River District Tournament Champions, Region I Runner-Ups and finished the season with the highest achievement as Virginia High School League AA State Golf Champions. In this state championship round the team was led by a top six in Glenn Kaylor, Mark South, Robert Teagle, Joe Sibley, Brian Sterling and Tommy Healy.  They shot a combined score of 663 to win by one stroke.  “We truly had an amazing team of talent and a great coach in Coach Jerry Morgan.  It was an honor to be part of such a talented squad that won states two years in a row, and came second the third year” from team member Chris Denton.  Besides being great golfers this group was involved in a variety of activities at GHS, including National Honor Society, FBLA, Student Council, Beta Club and numerous other sports.  From teammate Brian Sterling, “Being on the team and winning two State Championships for the GHS Dukes has always been a highlight in my life and I look back on it with fond memories”.

The 1987 State Championship Golf Team includes: Rob Baldwin, Chris Denton, Chris DuPaul, Tommy Healy, Tyler Johnson, Glenn Kaylor, Steelman Ketchum, Ashley Long, Joe Sibley, Stephen Smith, Mark South, Brian Sterling, Robert Teagle and Coach Jerry Morgan.
